Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have called on their colleagues to halt the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu.

themomentng reports that the appeal, made by Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, comes just 24 hours after two other lawmakers made similar calls for a peaceful resolution.

While maintaining that the governor and deputy allegedly breached constitutional provisions, the lawmakers stated that their position shift was influenced by interventions from well-meaning leaders within the state.

This latest development brings the number of lawmakers who initially signed the impeachment notice but are now calling for a peaceful resolution to four out of the 26 original signatories. The political impasse continues to evolve, with signs that some members of the assembly are seeking an alternative to the ongoing impeachment process.

Rivers State House of Assembly is expected to reconvene on January 15, 2026, to further discuss the matter.

In a related report, Naija News recalls that Sylvanus Nwankwo, the Minority Leader representing Omuma Constituency, and Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency had also withdrawn their support for the impeachment move. They cited appeals from respected political figures both within and outside the state, urging the assembly to explore peaceful resolutions rather than continue with the impeachment proceedings.

Nwankwo and Abbey had called on the assembly to cease the impeachment process and consider alternative methods for resolving the crisis that has gripped the state’s leadership.
