A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has expressed confidence that the opposition party cannot be ruled out in the 2027 general elections.

themomentng reports that Sowunmi made this known on Thursday during an interview programme on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, programme.

Amidst the leadership crisis that has engulfed the PDP since the 2023 election, Sowunmi said the party has a groundswell which cannot be ruled out.

He said, “PDP has a groundswell and cannot be ruled out in the 2027 elections.

“You just have to wait until they blow the whistle. Let PDP get our of court. Let one party of it be stable and watch and see what it means to have a 27-year asset in politics.

“Then you will know that the reason for its slogan ‘power’. I’m not saying they are going to win but I guarantee that you can never rule them out.”

Meanwhile, Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

themomentng reports that the defection of the younger Atiku, popularly known as Abba, was announced on Thursday at the National Assembly.

According to Vanguard, upon defection, Atiku was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), alongside APC leaders from the North-East geopolitical zone.

Speaking on the defection, Atiku cited personal and historic reasons.

He also directed all coordinators and members of his political structure, formerly known as the Haske Atiku Organisation founded in 2022, to immediately join the APC and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
