The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has announced incentives for participants in the “Run for Asiwaju 2027” Mini Marathon scheduled for Jan. 25.

Obasa, who represents Agege Constituency 1, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

He said the event would attract no fewer than 1,000 athletes and would reward outstanding performances.

“Two hundred participants will receive ₦10,000 each, while seven professional athletes would earn ₦50,000 each,” he said.

The speaker described the marathon as a unique initiative aimed at promoting physical fitness, political awareness, grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s leadership represents “a race worth running and winning,” urging residents to turn out in large numbers to participate in the event.

“This is more than a sporting event.

“It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our father, leader and mentor.

“This is especially in areas such as economic reforms, infrastructure development, security and national unity, while also mobilising support to renew his mandate in 2027,” he said.

Obasa, a six-term lawmaker, called on Lagos residents to participate actively in the marathon.

He said the race would start from the Agege Local Government Secretariat, pass through various communities and terminate at the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Obasa said the initiative was particularly aimed at engaging and energising the youth, noting that the marathon carries a symbolic message.

He explained that, like leadership, winning a race required discipline, resilience and consistency—qualities he said exemplify the leadership style of President Tinubu.

The speaker expressed optimism over the success of the event, saying he looked forward to welcoming participants at the Agege Local Government Secretariat on the day of the race.
