Apple is planning one of the biggest makeovers in its AI strategy yet; it’s transforming Siri into a full-blown artificial intelligence chatbot that will be built right into iPhones, iPads, and Macs later this year. The move is designed to help Apple compete more directly with established AI players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

According to a Bloomberg report, the revamped digital assistant — codenamed “Campos” — won’t just be a nicer voice interface. It will replace the current Siri experience entirely and support both voice and text conversations, working more like modern chatbots that can answer questions, handle tasks, and interact naturally. The update is expected to be a headline feature of the upcoming iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 releases.

Apple is reportedly powering Campos with a custom version of Google’s Gemini AI under a long-term partnership, marking an unusual turn for Apple, which typically avoids deep reliance on competitors’ tech. The company has struggled to keep Siri competitive, and this redesign is a clear signal that Apple wants to close that gap with rivals.

The new Siri is expected to use its deep integration with Apple’s operating systems to go beyond what standalone chat apps can do. Sources say it could pull information from email, photos, and other apps, summarise documents, generate content, and even suggest actions based on what’s on screen — all while preserving Apple’s emphasis on user privacy.

This overhaul matters because it fundamentally shifts Siri from a handy voice helper to a full-featured AI assistant built into Apple devices. If successful, it could reshape how millions of users interact with their gadgets, making Siri a direct competitor to ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and other conversational AI tools.
