A Law graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reportedly passed away just a day after her convocation ceremony, throwing friends, colleagues and members of the university community into deep mourning.

The tragic development was made public on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @plantcodesss, who shared the heartbreaking news on Wednesday.

According to the post, the deceased was a member of the University of Lagos graduating set of 2023, having recently completed her academic programme in the Faculty of Law.

The University of Lagos held its 2024/2025 convocation ceremony on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the institution’s main campus in Akoka, Lagos.

The ceremony marked the formal award of degrees to thousands of graduating students, including Law graduates who had successfully completed years of rigorous academic training.

Photos and videos from the event showed graduates celebrating their achievements alongside friends and family, making news of the young lawyer’s sudden death particularly painful for many.

Since the announcement, social media has been flooded with tributes and expressions of grief, as friends and well-wishers struggled to come to terms with the sudden loss.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of death have not been officially disclosed, and the University of Lagos management is yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
