Youths have been advised to choose the path of drug-free life and build a safer, healthier and prosperous life by jettisoning drug intake and trafficking.

Mr Charles Onubogu, the Anambra State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), gave the advice during an advocacy campaign to youths in Awka on Saturday.

Onubogu said that there was nothing sparkling about drugs that people cannot develop a will power to reject in its totality as a killer pill.

He called on the youth, community faith-based organisation leaders, parents, and civil society bodies across the state, to periodically engage the youths on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.

He described as worrisome the rate at which youths engage in drugs and asked that a decisive sensitisation commence immediately.

“There is no more time to waste, the youths are using their whole life to embrace hard drugs.

“I call on parents, guardians and well meaning members of the public to take the fight against intake of hard drugs by the youths seriously.

“As you engage in evangelism to win souls for God, please win souls for the nation.

“Parents should create quality time with their children, relaxing and interacting deeply with them to be able to track down any trait that can sell them off to drugs,” he said.

Onubogu said that NDLEA in Anambra has no other business but to drag out people deep in drug abuse and help them detest the substance.

He called on members of the public to see the fight against drug abuse as a social responsibility adding that a society bedeviled with drug addicts is not a habitable society.

The NDLEA commander said that the command was bent on eliminating the menace but the inclusive action of the people was needed, with timely quality information and clearer details.

“The fight against drugs and trafficking will only come to a barest level if the people agrees to walk and work with NDLEA in the state,” he said.

Onubogu, therefore, urged members of the public to always reach out to the agency on 09136832679.
