With Jenny Umahi removed from contention, Osborne Umahi secured all 55 votes cast, affirming his position as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the local government poll.

The process was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his acceptance speech, Osborne outlined his priorities if elected chairman, emphasising health, agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure.

“We will develop cottage agricultural centres; we will implement mechanised farming to ensure that the agricultural sector of the local government is properly developed,” he said.

He also pledged to enhance road networks within the council area, especially those linking farms and markets.

“We will build roads to market places, to farmlands for easy evacuation of our agricultural products. We will implement concrete road construction to build roads that will last more than 50 years,” he added.

Umahi expressed appreciation to key figures who supported his candidature, including Governor Francis Nwifuru, whom he thanked for nominating him to contest.

He also acknowledged his father’s prayers and his siblings’ encouragement throughout the contest.

A number of local leaders and stakeholders welcomed Umahi’s victory.

Among those who congratulated him were Mrs Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Development (South East), and the State Commissioner for Housing, Francis Ori.
