Oluremi Tinubu bags honorary PhD in childhood education

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Childhood Education by the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.

The honorary degree was conferred on Tinubu at the university’s 17th convocation ceremony held on Thursday in Ijebu-Ode.

The university said the award recognised her lifelong commitment to education, teaching and the promotion of child development in Nigeria.

Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun received a Doctor of Science degree in Education Management, while Former Governor of Ogun, Olusegun Osoba, was also honoured with a Doctor of Science degree in Political Science education.

Tinubu, represented by the Vice President’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, while speaking on behalf of other awardees, commended the university for the honour.

She described education as the foundation of national growth and sustainable development.

The First Lady said the award was significant to her as a lifelong teacher and advocate of quality education.

“This honour is deeply meaningful to me as a teacher. Education remains the most powerful tool for shaping lives and transforming nations.

“I dedicate this award to every young child whose future depends on access to quality education and well-trained teachers,” she added.

She reaffirmed her commitment to policies promoting access to education for women, children and youths.

She said quality teaching and learning were critical to building a strong and prosperous nation.

She urged graduates to apply their knowledge and skills as instruments for positive societal change.

Tinubu advised the graduates to pursue their dreams with discipline, confidence and responsibility.

She congratulated parents and families for supporting the academic journeys of the graduates, while also commending the university for its contributions to teacher education and human capital development.

Tinubu also announced a N50 million endowment fund for the best graduating female student.

The Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello, congratulated the honorary awardees and other recipients for their recognition.

Bello said the honourees were carefully selected through due process.

He described them as trailblazers whose integrity and contributions to national development were outstanding.
