The Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt Area I Command, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, has placed discipline, punctuality and reputational management at the centre of the Command’s operational priorities for 2026, stressing that the credibility of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is shaped by the daily conduct of its officers.
She made this known on Monday, 10 February 2026, during the Command’s first parade of the year held at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt. The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Barilule Aanee.
Addressing officers and men from various units and formations under the Command, Comptroller Atuluku described discipline and adherence to procedures as non-negotiable requirements for effective service delivery.
“Efficiency begins with personal responsibility. Officers must respect the chain of command, adhere strictly to established procedures and consistently demonstrate integrity in the discharge of their duties,” she said.
She emphasised that operational success and institutional credibility are sustained through accountability, professionalism and ethical conduct, noting that reputational management remains critical to public confidence in the Service.
“The image of the NCS is defined daily by our actions and interactions. Courtesy, transparency, integrity and accountability must guide our engagements with stakeholders, sister agencies and the public,” Comptroller Atuluku stated.
She aligned her remarks with the leadership vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, noting that the current administration continues to prioritise discipline, transparency and institutional integrity across Commands nationwide.
Also speaking, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Abubakar Nadama reminded officers that protecting the Service’s reputation is a collective responsibility.
“Every officer represents the Service at all times. Our conduct, both on and off duty, must reflect the values and standards of the Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.
The parade also featured the presentation of awards to officers recognised for diligence and exemplary commitment to duty. The award recipients were DC Abubakar Nadama, DC Tivfa Antom, Assistant Superintendent of Customs II Princewill Nmezi, and Customs Assistant III Promise Mbah.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, DC Nadama expressed appreciation to the Customs Area Controller and the Command’s leadership for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to sustain excellence and professionalism.
The ceremony formally set the tone for the Command’s operations in 2026, with renewed emphasis on discipline, ethical conduct and institutional reputation at the Port Harcourt Area I Command.
