Senator Sarafa Abiodun Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has advised the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritise the establishment of more colleges, polytechnics, and research institutions rather than focusing on their closure or reduction.
He made this call during the 2026 budget retreat organised by the Committee of Colleges of Agriculture and Research Institutions.
Senator Alli emphasised that several professors present at the event had graduated from these institutions and were excelling in their respective fields, noting that this demonstrates the need to expand access to quality education.
“I am not saying this because I attended those schools,” he clarified, “but because we need more institutions to drive development.”
Drawing from his personal journey, Senator Alli noted that he progressed from secondary school to A-level and eventually became a successful lawyer, underscoring the value of diverse educational pathways, Alli said.
He urged the government to invest more in these institutions to unlock Nigeria’s full potential.
