Committed of Retired IGPs Pay Solidarity Visit to IGP Kayode Egbetokun

The Committee of Retired Inspectors-General of Police today met with the incumbent Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, at the Louis Edet House, reaffirming unity and continuity in the Nigeria Police Force.

The meeting was attended by members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police and other senior officers. Retired IGPs present at the meeting include IGP Aliyu Attah (RTD) GCON, CFR, NPM, mni; IGP Sunday Ehindero (RTD) NPM, fwc; IGP Mike Okiro (RTD) CFR, NPM, mni; IGP Ogbonna Onovo (RTD) OON, NPM, mni; IGP Suleiman Abba (RTD) CFR, NPM, mni, and IGP M.D. Abubakar (RTD) PhD, CFR, NPM, mni.

In his address, IGP Kayode Egbetokun outlined reforms achieved in the past two years: upgrading the Intelligence Unit to a Department, elevating the Legal and Medical Units to Directorates, expanding Police Mobile Force Squadrons from 74 to 84, creating new Area Commands and Divisions, and establishing the Special Intervention Squad. He emphasised merit-based promotions, with over 141,000 officers advanced, and compulsory ethics training to strengthen professionalism amongst others.

Responding on behalf of the committee of retired IGPs, IGP M.D. Abubakar (RTD) commended the incumbent’s progress, encouraged him to sustain the momentum, and called on officers of the Force to support the IGP in his reform-oriented initiatives.

The meeting underscored collaboration across generations of police leadership, with a shared commitment to building a modern, trusted, and capable Nigeria Police Force.
