The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a Nigerian TikToker known as Mirabel over false rape claims.
themomentng reports that the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Friday that the social media personality is now in police custody.
He explained that the investigation is still ongoing and that further steps would depend on the outcome of the findings.
“We have her. Investigations will explain the next line of action,” he told Peoples Gazette.
The saga began when Mirabel, a TikTok user with the handle @mirab351, posted videos alleging that she was sexually assaulted in her apartment in Ogijo, Ogun State.
She claimed the man restrained her and boasted that his family connections would shield him from facing justice.
The posts quickly went viral on social media, trending under hashtags like #StopRapingWomen, and triggered widespread calls for justice and immediate police action.
At the early stage of the case, the police had stated that she was not under arrest but was being treated as a complainant after reporting the alleged assault.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State reportedly directed officers at the Ibafo Division to reach out to her once the matter gained public attention.
Mirabel later visited the police station, where she gave an initial statement.
She was taken for medical examination, and the case was transferred to the Ogijo Police Station.
According to the police, she also received medical care due to her emotional and physical state while the investigation was underway.
During earlier updates, the police made it clear that they would follow due process in handling the matter.
The command maintained that anyone found responsible for sexual assault would face prosecution. At the same time, the police reminded the public that giving false information to law enforcement is a crime under Nigerian law.
The case took a turn when Mirabel retracted her claims, admitting in a viral audio that parts of her story were false and apologizing to the public.
