The management of the University of Abuja has expelled 28 students over different disciplinary offences, including examination malpractice, cult activities and result forgery.
themomentng reports that the decision was reached during a Senate meeting of the institution.
This was made known in a statement released on Sunday by Habib Yakoob, the acting director of information of the university. He explained that the action followed the review of findings and recommendations presented by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
According to the statement, the affected students were found guilty of various offences such as threat to life, assault, conspiracy, burglary and theft. Others were linked to cult-related activities as well as possession and use of hard drugs. Some of the students were also accused of uploading fake O-Level results on the university’s admission portal.
The statement added that some of the students failed to appear before the disciplinary committee despite several invitations sent to them. As a result, the Senate also approved the withdrawal of certificates earlier issued to 15 former students who refused to honour the committee’s summons after repeated notices.
After reviewing other cases, the Senate cleared nine students of wrongdoing. However, 33 students received warnings for offences such as conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Hakeem Fawehinmi, said the institution remains committed to keeping the campus safe and suitable for learning. He stated that the school will continue to enforce its rules and maintain order across all levels.
He also appreciated the work of the Student Disciplinary Committee for properly reviewing the cases brought before it. The vice-chancellor advised students to behave responsibly and avoid actions that could disrupt their studies or affect their academic progress.
