A 25-year-old labourer, identified as Ibrahim Oseni, has been arrested in Edo State for allegedly killing his 18-year-old cousin, Hassan Suleiman, following a dispute that reportedly began months earlier in Katsina State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on February 19, 2026, at Evbuoarue community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to security sources, both men, who are natives of Katsina State, had unresolved disagreements in their hometown in 2025. Despite later reconciling, the dispute allegedly lingered.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Edo State Security Corps following a distress report of a murder in a bush within the community.
Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Commander of the Corps (Operations), Richard Balogun, said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation and was subsequently handed over to the Ugo Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation.
Balogun explained that after settling their differences, both cousins relocated to Benin City to engage in menial jobs. However, investigators believe the suspect had not fully let go of the earlier dispute.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly lured the victim under the guise of running an errand. The victim was later reported missing by colleagues before his body was discovered.
Security operatives recovered several items believed to be linked to the incident, which were submitted to the police as exhibits. Authorities also alleged that the suspect transferred part of the money found on the victim to relatives in Katsina State after the incident.
Suspicion reportedly arose after the suspect showed unusual knowledge of the crime scene, prompting community members to alert security operatives, leading to his arrest.
The police have begun a full investigation, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of inquiries.
