President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as the new Inspector-General of Police.

A native of Lagos State, Disu brings more than three decades of policing experience, cutting across operations, intelligence, investigations, and strategic command. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University, along with Master’s degrees in Public Administration, Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology. He also possesses an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation.

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has held several critical positions nationwide. His previous assignments include Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, Head of the Intelligence Response Team, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit.

His time as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad between 2015 and 2021 drew national attention, following notable improvements in urban crime control and operational coordination in Lagos.

With this appointment, expectations are high as Nigerians look to the new police chief to strengthen professionalism, improve security response, and restore public confidence in the Force.
