The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is set to deliver the 6th, 7th, and 8th combined convocation lecture of Akwa Ibom State University.
A release signed by the Chairman of the Convocation Planning Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the institution, Professor Iniobong Umotong, indicates that the lecture titled: “Leveraging Emerging Technology to Enhance University Education and National Development,” will hold at the 500-capacity Senate Building at the main Campus of the University in Ikot Akpaden, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 3pm.
Yilwatda, a former APC governorship candidate in Plateau State, is a technocrat and politician with roots in engineering, governance reform, and party politics.
Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, Professor Yilwatda studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, graduating in 1992.
He was the Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for 12 years, underscoring his strong technical background.
Between July 2017 and December 2021, Yilwatda was appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In 2023, he served as the coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign in Plateau State and contested the governorship election under the APC platform.
Yilwatda was appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development by President Tinubu in October 2024. before being named APC’s substantive chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, becoming the first person from Plateau State to occupy the position.
