Sources close to the palace, however, said Oba Falabi died after a brief illness during the weekend.

In her condolence message, Okunola expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing, describing it as the “fall of a great elephant.”

She said Ikire and the entire Irewole Local Government had lost a royal father whose wisdom, courage and guidance were pillars of unity and progress.

According to her, Oba Falabi’s reign was marked by peace, cultural preservation and commitment to the development of Ikire.

“His leadership strengthened traditional institutions and fostered harmony among his people.

“Indeed, when a mighty elephant falls, the forest trembles. Kabiyesi lived a life of honour and service. His legacy will continue to inspire generations,” she added.

Okunola also extended condolences to the royal family, the Akire Traditional Council and the people of Ikire, praying that God grants the monarch eternal rest.

Oba Falabi, a pharmacist, was installed as the Akire of Ikire in May 1993 and reigned for over three decades.

During his reign, the town witnessed economic and political growth, including the siting of the College of Humanities of Osun State University in Ikire and the emergence of Benedict Alabi, an indigene of the town, as the Deputy Governor of Osun State.
