Arsenal restored their five-point lead at the Premier League summit with a hard fought 2-1 win over Chelsea at Emirates Stadium.
It was the hosts who led in the first half as William Saliba (21) headed home, before Piero Hincapie (45+2) diverted Reece James’ inswinging corner in for Chelsea’s equaliser ahead of the interval.
Jurrien Timber (66) then restored Arsenal’s lead with a close-range header, moments before Chelsea were reduced to 10 men as Pedro Neto received two bookings in two minutes.
Mikel Arteta’s side still survived some late scares before securing victory to reopen their lead over second placed Manchester City, while Chelsea missed the chance to put pressure on the top-four spots.
A five-point lead for Arsenal, although they have played a game more than the teams below them.
Chelsea remain six points adrift of the top four and those Champions League places. In short, it’s been a good day for Manchester United, who came from behind to beat 10-man Crystal Palace at Old Trafford earlier today.
