The Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of Kwara State Polytechnic following weeks of closure triggered by a students’ protest.

The approval was conveyed in a memo signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Halima Garba, on behalf of the Registrar.

The memo, issued by the office of the Acting Registrar and dated February 26, 2026, was titled, “Reopening of the Polytechnic for Academic and Administrative Work.”

It read in part, “The management of the Polytechnic wishes to formally inform the Polytechnic community that the Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of the Polytechnic for academic and administrative work.

“In line with the directive, the Polytechnic will resume on Monday, March 2nd, 2026.

“All staff and students are therefore urged to adhere to the directive and resume back promptly on the stated date.”

The polytechnic had earlier been shut down as a result of a students’ protest a few weeks ago. While details of the protest were not restated in the memo, the closure had disrupted academic activities across the campus.

The government’s decision to reopen the institution is expected to bring relief to students and staff who have been awaiting a directive on the continuation of the academic calendar.

Appreciating members of the institution for their patience during the shutdown, the management expressed optimism about completing the ongoing academic session without further disruption.

“The management appreciates both staff and students for their cooperation and understanding during the period of the closure and looks forward to a productive and successful completion of the first semester 2025/2026 academic session,” the memo added.
