Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, has revealed her choice of the greatest Afrobeats artistes of all time, popularly referred to as the “Afrobeats Big 3.”

The ‘Rush’ crooner made the disclosure during a recent interview with Hot 97 FM, where she named Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema as her top three Afrobeats stars.

Her selection has sparked conversations among fans and music enthusiasts, particularly because popular Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Burna Boy were not included in her list.

themomentng reports that in the Afrobeats scene, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy are commonly regarded by fans and critics as the genre’s “Big 3” due to their global influence and commercial success.

However, Ayra Starr’s list took a different direction, with the singer choosing Rema and Tiwa Savage alongside Wizkid.

“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3,” she said.

Her comments have since generated debate across social media, with fans discussing the evolving dynamics of Afrobeats and the influence of different generations of artists.

Meanwhile, the singer also explained why she decided to relocate from Nigeria to New York City in the United States.

Speaking during another interview with media personality Angela Yee, Ayra Starr said her decision was influenced by the city’s cultural environment and the presence of friends.

According to her, she had spent considerable time in the city over the past two summers and eventually decided to stay there for a while.

“I spent the last two summers in New York and last summer I lived in Hell’s Kitchen for about three months with my friends. We were watching American shows and movies. It was fun,” she said.

The singer further explained that although she had always wanted to experience life in the United States while growing up, the choice of location came down to convenience and time differences.

She noted that while Los Angeles was another option, the distance and time difference between the city and Nigeria influenced her decision.

“Also, growing up, I had always wanted to come to America. So which city would I want to go? LA is too far, the time difference with Nigeria is nine hours. So, I chose New York,” she explained.
