England international, Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea F.C. after signing a new six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
Reece James, 26, a product of Chelsea’s academy, made his senior debut in September 2019 and has since grown into one of the club’s key figures. His previous deal was due to run until 2028, but the club moved early to secure fresh terms.
His new contract, first reported by The Athletic, is understood to maintain an incentive-based structure tied to both individual and team performances. The England international is already the club’s highest-paid player, earning around £250,000 a week.
Reece James has made 225 appearances for Chelsea since breaking into the first team and has been a regular presence in the side during the current Premier League season, starting 19 of his 26 league outings.
His earlier contract was signed soon after the club’s takeover by Todd Boehly and investment firm Clearlake Capital in 2022.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, James has lifted several major honours, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021, the UEFA Super Cup the same year, and the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025. He was appointed captain three years ago.
The defender has battled a series of injuries in recent seasons and underwent surgery in December 2023 to address a recurring hamstring problem.
themomentng reports that James has also impressed with his versatility, featuring at both full-back and in midfield, while his leadership has drawn praise following earlier criticism under former head coach Enzo Maresca.
At the international level, James remains determined to secure a place in the England national football team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after missing the last two tournaments through injury.
He returned to England duty in early 2025 after a two-year absence and most recently featured in the team’s 2-0 win over Serbia at Wembley in November.
