Chief Samuel Ortom, the immediate past governor of Benue, has urged stakeholders, local government party officials and aspirants to massively mobilise and participate in the forthcoming e-registration.

Ortom, who is the leader of the party in the state, made the call on Sunday at the PDP Expanded Caucus Meeting held in Makurdi.

The former governor said that only those with the new members’ card would be guaranteed to participate in the coming party primaries.

He announced that the e-registration would commence on Monday and last for two weeks.

Ortom explained that the new electoral act had made it mandatory for all political parties to conduct direct primaries.

On the strategic partnership between the PDP and APC in Benue, Ortom said the current circumstances in the state have forced them into entering the agreement.

He said as elders and leaders in the state, they could not afford to sit and allow the state to go into extinction as a result of bad governance.

“We are appealing to the other group to come together and work with us as a team so that together we can forge ahead to win the 2027 election.

“There are no more factions in the PDP. Even the other groups are accepting that there is a need for us to come together and work as a team.

“Moving forward, there is going to be e-registration, which will start on Monday. New registration will start on Monday, and it will take two weeks.

“I am sure we are all conversant with the new Electoral Act signed by Mr President. What we are expected to do now is that there will be no more indirect primaries, the electoral college system that we used to practise.

“It is either going to be by consensus or by direct primaries,” he said.

Earlier, Senate Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro lauded the All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the strategic partnership against bad governance.

Moro said the state has witnessed unprecedented security challenges and underdevelopment.

“Something is not just adding up in Benue. We are all filing behind Chief Ortom to ensure that the strategic partnership between the PDP and APC works.

“We are partnering on ideas to rescue Benue. Any candidate that emerges should be supported,” he said.

Moro said PDP was on the move and urged party members to massively turn out for the forthcoming party e-registration.
