Customs hand over Cannabis Sativa worth N131.6m to NDLEA in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, intercepted and seized 2,437 parcels of Cannabis Sativa in different locations of the state with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N131,598,000 from January till date.

The Customs Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the drugs to Mr Olaniyi Ekundayo, Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, at Idiroko on Tuesday.

Afeni said that the cache of narcotics seized were meant to be consumed by youths between the ages of 20 and 21 in the state

“I want to urge our parents to admonish their children against the use of drugs because substance abuse does not do any good to the people taking it.”he said.

Receiving the seized substance, Ekunday, represented by Ganiyu Adeyooye, NDLEA Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Idiroko, reiterated the agency’s commitment to continue to partner with the Customs service to eliminate drug trafficking  through the country’s land border.

Ekundayo urged all stakeholders to work together to fight the scourge of drug abuse in the country.

He said that the necessary laboratory  test would be conducted to confirm the substance to be cannabis sativa.

Ekundayo warned youths to refrain from taking drugs in order not to destroy their future.
