Iran has vowed swift retaliation targeting energy infrastructure across the entire Gulf region if the United States attacks its power plants, following US President Donald Trump’s threat to strike Iranian facilities unless Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
The warning came after Trump demanded Iran lift its effective closure of the strategic oil and LNG shipping route.
Hours later, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf posted, “Immediately after power plants and infrastructure in our country are targeted, vital infrastructure as well as energy and oil infrastructure across the entire region will be considered legitimate targets and will be irreversibly destroyed.”
He added that Iran would not hesitate to respond, as it has done against Israel over the past three weeks, and could fully shut down the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian later stated, “The waterway will remain open for all and not for those who violate our sovereignty,” in a clear message to US allies.
In another post on X, he said, “The illusion of erasing Iran from the map shows desperation against the will of a history-making nation. Threats and terror only strengthen our unity.”
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi echoed similar views, insisting the Strait of Hormuz remains open but disruptions stem from the war initiated by Israel and the United States.
“Ships hesitate because insurers fear the war of choice you initiated – not Iran,” he wrote. “No insurer – and no Iranian – will be swayed by more threats.”
In a separate statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to target all ships linked to US companies or the US government if Washington launches strikes on Iran’s energy facilities.
