The Akwa Ibom Police Command has detained four suspected drug dealers at Okopedi in Eket Local Government Area, the command confirmed on Sunday.
John said the arrests followed intelligence-driven raids under the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, targeting criminal activity in Okopedi and Eket.
“Operatives acted on credible intelligence and raided a known hotspot on Saturday, about 7:45 p.m., arresting four suspects,” she said.
The suspects were found with tools commonly used for preparing and consuming illicit substances, including several empty Squadron bottles associated with abuse.
John added that quantities of crystal meth, also known as ice, were recovered during the operation.
In a separate raid at Abia Uduk Street, Ikot Ebok, the surveillance team responded to reports of suspicious activity.
“Upon sighting police, several hoodlums fled. During their retreat, one discarded a yellow nylon bag containing two locally made pistols and two live cartridges.
“These operations reflect the relentless efforts of the Akwa Ibom Police to maintain peace and security,” John said.
The police spokesperson said the command remains committed to eradicating criminal elements, intensifying action against illegal firearms and substance abuse.
She urged members of the public to provide useful information to support the collective fight against crime.
