A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Umar, has denied reports of being arrested and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
themomentng reports that the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, in a post via 𝕏, alleged that Umar was arrested shortly after hosting him in Kaduna last Sunday.
However, Umar, in a viral video online, dismissed the claims, stating that he was only invited for questioning and later released.
The cleric said he cooperated fully with security officials and appealed to supporters and residents of Kaduna State to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt peace in the state.
He said, “I am speaking today to correct the false report that is circulating. I was not detained by the DSS. I was invited for questioning. I cooperated fully and I was released. I am free, I am safe and I am well.
“I want to appeal to all our supporters and to all citizens of Kaduna State to remain calm, remain peaceful and remain law-abiding citizens. No one should take the law into his hands. No one should create disorder in the name of loyalt.”
Speaking on the ordeal of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, the ADC chieftain also urged patience, asking the public to allow due process to take its course.
He further advised citizens dissatisfied with the current political system to pursue change through democratic means.
He added, “To anyone dissatisfied with the current system, the answer is very simple: register, vote and choose better leadership when the time comes.
