This move is part of efforts to decentralize policing in Nigeria and boost national security.

The 75-page framework outlines the proposed structure and operations of state police, including governance and coordination with federal police.

The IGP says the report provides professional insights and strategic recommendations, shaped by extensive consultations and assessments of operational, legal, and administrative implications as he expresses hope it will contribute to informed decisions on national security.

The Deputy President of the Senate in response says the Senate Committee will study the proposed framework as part of the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.

The creation of State Police he adds aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to enhance security in the country.
