Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has been taken into custody by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

This follows a fresh security probe over the alleged discovery of arms at his residence in Kebbi State.

Malami, who is being tried before a Federal High Court on a 16-count money laundering charge, was granted bail alongside his wife and son.

However, he has not yet perfected the conditions for his release, and security sources indicate that DSS operatives have been closely monitoring developments around his detention.

The renewed investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS) follows reports that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) uncovered arms and ammunition at Malami’s Kebbi country home during a property search.

Significantly, the alleged possession of arms falls outside the EFCC’s mandate, the inventory was reportedly handed over to the DSS for further action.

The details of the quantity and type of weapons reportedly found have not been disclosed publicly, but sources say the discovery was significant enough to trigger a full-scale security investigation.

Malami’s continued detention has proven the complexity of his legal challenges. From money laundering to alleged arms possession.

The former AGF served in office from 2015 to 2023.
