The initiative is expected to support domestic revenue mobilisation while enhancing the international competitiveness of Ethiopian agricultural exports.

Officials stressed that the programme was designed to equip small-scale farmers with modern skills, resources and financial literacy, enabling them to adapt to economic pressures and improve long-term productivity.

The partnership reflected a shift from short-term assistance towards sustainable, locally anchored development solutions.

The initiative was discussed during a high-level briefing in Addis Ababa, chaired by Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew, who met with a delegation representing development partners from the United Arab Emirates.

This was reported by Ethiopia News Agency, ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that extensive consultations are under way with technical experts and key stakeholders to design a project framework aligned with national development priorities.

A core focus of the initiative would  be Ethiopia’s coffee sector, a major contributor to national export revenues and one that is increasingly affected by climate change and evolving regulatory requirements in international markets.

The programme would promote climate-smart agricultural practices, carbon management and efficient water use to safeguard production and ensure continued market access.
