NUC approves 2,000 students for Fortune University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the increment of the students quota from 800 to 2,000 for the 2025/2026 academic session admission into the University of Fortune, Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The NUC’s approval was contained in a letter dated Jan. 28, signed by Abubakar Gerei, the acting Director of Planning on behalf of Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu-Ribadu, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, addressed to the Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for notification.

The letter, which was tagged ‘Upward Review of Admission Quota for University of Fortune’, was made available to newsmen on Thursday in Okitipupa by the founder of the institution, Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim.

It said,” I am directed to the Registrar that the Executive Secretary has approved an upward review of the admission quota for University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State, from 800 to 2,000 with effect from 2025/2026 academic session.

“The increase is as a result of information of improved human and material resources available to the commission.

“The Registrar is requested to kindly note this development and grant the institution all the privileges pertaining to this approval, including students admission.”

The NUC, however, assured the university of its continued support as it expands its academic offerings in line with the extant national standards.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the NUC had in December 2025 approved 17 undergraduate Degree courses for the  university the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approved programmes spanned four Faculties.

In the Faculty of Science and Computing, students would be able to study Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science and Cyber Security.

The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences would offer Accounting, Finance, Economics, International Relations, Criminology and Security Studies, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Project Management, Procurement Management and Intelligence and Security Studies.

Faculty of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences, would Public Health, Nursing Science and Radiology while the Faculty of Law has been cleared to run the LL.B. Law programme.

Ibrahim, however, said that university of Fortune, was established to expand access to quality tertiary education, with a vision to deliver professional, innovative and globally competitive graduates.

He urged the students seeking admission for the new courses to register them in the 2025/2026 JAMB form.
