Derick Brown Homes & Property directors dragged to Court over alleged forgery, false information

The office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has filed a criminal charge of forgery and false information against the dou of Igboegwu Derick Obiora and Engr. George Igboegwu, before a Federal High Court Lagos.

Obiora and Engineer George and their firm, Derick Brown Homes & Property Limited, were charged before the court presided over by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa on an eight count-charge marked FHC/L/1024c/2025, filed by Barrister J. I. Kpandegh, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

In the charge, the prosecutor, CSP Kpandegh, stated that the defendants whose addresses were stated as 5, launder drive Manor Garden Estate Lagos; 1, Westron Close Lekki Phase 1 Lagos and Suite C124 Ikota Shopping Complex, VGC, Lekki, Lagos, respectively, committed the offences between 2021 and 2023.

All the defendants were alleged to have criminally conspired among themselves and forcible entry, forgery/making false documents and possession of forged document, which they used as genuine.

The prosecutor specifically alleged that the defendants did forged and made false Deed of Assignment and other architectural designs in respect of a parcel of land measuring 8, 875. 088sqms lying, situate and being at lbasa village, ljegun/Egba Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos.

They were also alleged to have conducted themselves in manner likely to Cause breach of peace or reasonable apprehension of breach of peace, by entering on a parcel of land measuring 8,875.088sqms lying, situate and being at Ibasa village, ljegun/Egba Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos

They were also alleged to have on June 18, 2024, at the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Onikan Lagos, submitted a petition containing false information to the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police (AIG), against one Osa Osunde and his company, Southpoint Oil and Gas Limited, with intention of having Osa and his firm prosecuted on the false information.

The offences according to the prosecutor, are contrary to Sections 516; 465; 125 and 81 and punishable under section 473 of the Criminal Code Act. And Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, LFN 2004.

At the hearing of the matter last week, the prosecutor informed the court that he was yet to serve all the defendants.

The prosecutor, CSP Kpandegh, therefore asked the court for a short date to enable him effect service on all the defendants.

Consequently, Justice Lewis-Allagoa adjourned the matter to February 26, 2026, for defendants’ arrraignment.

Parts of the charges against the defendants read: “that you Ilgboegwu Derick Obiora ‘M’, of No 5 launder drive Manor Garden Estate Lagos, Engr. George Igboegwu ‘M’, of 1 Westron Close Lekki Phase 1 Lagos and Derick Brown Homes and Property Ltd of Suite C124 Ikota Shopping Complex, VGC, Lekki, Lagos, Lagos State sometimes between 2021 and 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Court did criminally conspire among yourselves to commit misdemeanours/felonies to wit: Forcible entry, Forgery/making false documents, possession of forged document and using as genuine and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Act.

“That you Igboegwu Derick Obiora ‘M’, of No 5 launder drive Manor Garden Estate Lagos, Engr. George Igboegwu ‘M’ of 1 Westron Close Lekki Phase 1 Lagos and Derick Brown Homes and Property Ltd of Suite C124 Ikota Shopping Complex, VGC, Lekki, Lagos, Lagos State sometimes between 2019 and 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Court with intent to defraud did without lawful authority, make false documents to wit: Deed of Assignment and other architectural designs in respect of a parcel of land measuring 8,875.088sqms lying, situate and being at Ibasa village, ljegun/Egba Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 465 and punishable under Section 473 of the Criminal Code Act.

“That you (1) Igboegwu Derick Obiora ‘M’, of No 5 launder drive Manor Garden Estate Lagos, Engr. George Igboegwu ‘M’ of 1 Westron Close Lekki Phase 1 Lagos and Derick Brown Homes and Property Ltd of Suite C124 Ikota Shopping Complex, VGC, Lekki, Lagos, Lagos State sometimes between 2021 and 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Court did in a manner likely to Cause breach of peace or reasonable apprehension of breach of peace, enter on a parcel of land measuring 8,875.088sqms lying, situate and being at Ibasa village, ljegun/Egba Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos which was in peaceful and actual possession of one Osa Osunde and Southpoint Oil and Gas Ltd and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 81 of the Criminal Code Act.

“That you Igboegwu Derrick Obiora ‘M’ 42 yrs of No 5 Launder Drive Manor Gardens Estate Lagos, Engr. George Igboegwu ‘M’ 78 yrs old of 1 Westron Close Lekki Phase 1, Lagos and Derick Brown Homes and Property Ltd on or about 18th day June, 2024 at the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Ikoyi Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Court did conspire among yourselves and bring accusation in a petition to AIG, a Public Officer, against one Osa Osunde and Southpoint Oil and Gas Ltd of criminal acts which you knew or believed to be false for the purpose prosecution and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section and punishable under Section 125 of Criminal Code Act.”
