The South South Development Commission (SSDC) has stepped up initiatives aimed at preparing young people in the region to take advantage of opportunities within the fast-growing digital economy.

As part of this renewed push, the Managing Director of the Commission, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, paid a strategic visit to the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, on Tuesday, February 10, 2027, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting highlighted SSDC’s determination to build strong institutional partnerships that will broaden access to digital skills training, technology innovation, and ICT-driven opportunities for youths across the six South-South states.
Speaking during the visit, Ms. Akpabio noted that the region is home to a large, vibrant, and technology-inclined youth population capable of contributing significantly to national growth. She stressed that closer collaboration with NITDA would help close existing digital skills gaps, stimulate job creation, and promote innovation-led economic progress.
She further described NITDA as a key player in Nigeria’s digital transformation, commending its leadership in digital literacy, ICT infrastructure expansion, and innovation support, all of which align with SSDC’s mandate to foster sustainable development in the region.
In his remarks, the NITDA Director General expressed the agency’s willingness to work with SSDC to roll out technology-focused programmes that will empower young people, encourage innovation, and drive economic diversification in the South-South.
