The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called for a stronger collaboration with the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun, on corps members’ welfare, and Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
The Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Ita Kubiangha, made this known during a courtesy visit to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Adebola, on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kubiangha said the visit was to strengthen ties with stakeholders, and discussed corps members’ welfare and skill acquisition programmes.
He commended the university for its consistent support to the scheme especially in the provision of tractors for weeding at the orientation camp in Ede.
According to him, the gesture by the university is key to the smooth conduct of orientation exercises.
“I am here to brief the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Adebola on the SAED programme and to explain our in-camp and post-camp training components designed to equip corps members with employable and entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.
“The university remains a major stakeholder in the NYSC scheme and we call for deepened collaboration to enhance corps welfare, community development services and youth empowerment initiatives,” he said.
Kubiangha assured the university management of the scheme’s commitment to sustain partnership in nation-building and youth development.
In his response, Adebola reaffirmed the university’s dedication to supporting the scheme while acknowledging the scheme’s critical role in fostering national unity, integration and leadership development among Nigerian youths.
The vice-chancellor pledged continual provision of resources and facilities for corps members, particularly in skill acquisition and community development projects.
He expressed interest in exploring new areas of partnership, including joint research initiatives and mentorship programmes to boost corps members’ professional and personal growth.
“We are committed to considering additional support such as the provision of slashers alongside the ongoing tractor services during orientation exercise.
“We also commend the scheme for making skilled manpower available to the university through corps members’ deployments,” Adebola said.
According to him, the visit will further strengthen synergy and mutual commitment to youth development in the state.
