Sen. Emma Anosike, a former lawmaker that represented Anambra North Senatorial District in the fifth National Assembly, on Tuesday, emerged the Anambra Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
NAN in Awka reports that Anosike, emerged as a consensus chairman from the party’s congress in Awka.
The Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Rear Admiral Kayoda William (rtd.), announced the outcome of the congress, as affirmed by delegates from the 21 LGA of the state.
William also declared Mr James Okeke as the Deputy Chairman, while Mr Obi Okpara emerged the Secretary, among other executive members.
He said that the consensus exercise was carried out in line with the Article 20 of APC to choose a consensus leadership.
Similarly, the Chairman, Local Harmonisation Committee of the congress, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, said that the exercise started two weeks ago, and happened simultaneously across the country.
Ekwunife said that ward and LGA congresses had earlier been settled, hence the state congress.
She described Anosike as “someone who has the capacity to pilot the affairs of the APC in the state.
“Our President, Bola Tinubu want’s someone who can grow APC in Anambra, that was why we settled for Emma Anosike,” she said.
Earlier, Mr Basil Ejidike, the outgoing Chairman, who held office for seven years, thanked the national and state leaderships and members of the party, “who have contributed to the development of the party under my leadership”.
He appealed to the members to accord the new executive the support to enable it to succeed.
Responding, Anosike thanked the national and state leaderships of the party for seeing him as “a competent leader to steer the affairs of APC in Anambra”.
He also thanked the harmonisation committee and the state congress committee for a hitch-free exercise.
He assured the national executive that the new state executive would do everything possible to lift the party to greater height at the state and national levels.
“APC must change for the better in Anambra and Nigeria,” he said.
He appealed to members to cooperate with the new executive to move the party forward.
NAN reports that Mr Olisa Metuh, a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and now an APC member, moved a motion for the dissolution of the old executive.
Metuh’s motion was seconded by another party chieftain, Mr Obiora Okonkwo.
