Uber driver docked over alleged N7m car theft

A 32-year-old Uber driver, Godswill Amfor, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry worth N7 million.

Amfor of Mende in Maryland, Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 25 at Awolowo Road, Ikeja.

Perezi said the defendant allegedly stole a silver Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 582 LB belonging to the complainant, Mr Caleb Daudu.

The prosecutor said that police officers arrested the defendant on Jan. 26 while he was driving the stolen vehicle in the Maryland area of Lagos.

He said the vehicle and other personal items belonging to the complainant were recovered from the defendant.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs S. K Matepo, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until March 23 for mention.
