The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Monday decorated newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and charged them to strengthen intelligence-led policing across the country.
Disu also urged the senior officers to deepen inter-agency collaboration and improve operational coordination within the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly decorated officers include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had been decorated the previous week.
Speaking during the ceremony, the police chief emphasised that the new rank placed the officers in key leadership positions within the force.
The IGP urged the newly promoted DIGs to use their experience to strengthen accountability and improve operational effectiveness.
“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service,” Disu said.
According to him, promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the police and requires integrity, courage and commitment to justice.
Disu noted that the DIGs were expected to provide strategic leadership, strengthen internal discipline and support ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the police.
He also highlighted emerging security challenges confronting the country, including organised crime, cyber-enabled threats and violent criminal networks.
“As members of the top strategic leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, you are entrusted with responsibilities that go beyond operational command. You must ensure our policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape,” he added.
The police chief further urged the officers to maintain professionalism and accountability while helping transform the force into a technologically driven and citizen-focused institution.
Disu also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the police.
He commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
The IGP expressed confidence that the newly decorated officers would justify the trust placed in them and contribute to improving the professionalism and effectiveness of the police.
