The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that one person died while two others sustained injuries following a gas tanker explosion at Ologuro bus stop in Sangotedo area of the state.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

Oke-Osanyitolu said the agency’s emergency response team, known as the Shark Team, arrived promptly at the scene and discovered that a tipper truck with no identifiable registration number had rammed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was over speeding and reckless driving on the part of the tipper truck driver,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the driver of the tipper truck, an adult male, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

He added that two adult females suffered minor injuries and were immediately attended to by the officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS).

The permanent secretary added that the fire engulfed four roadside shops, causing significant damage to property.

He said the contents of the tanker remained trapped within the vehicle, while recovery operations were ongoing.

“LASEMA’s Shark Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS, successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, preventing it from affecting nearby buildings.

“The fire has now been brought under control, while recovery operations are still in progress. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” he said.
