Students of Kogi State Polytechnic were thrown into mourning on Thursday following the sudden death of a lecturer, Anslem Ojodomo.
themomentng learnt that Ojodomo’s death comes barely a month after another lecturer, Barnabas Akuba, died in February shortly after completing his PhD programme.
Confirming Ojodomo’s demise, a source within the school who spoke with Vanguard said the lecturer collapsed and died while delivering a lecture to students.
The source further stated that Ojodomo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The source said, “The incident occurred during a classroom session. The lecturer suddenly slumped while addressing the students, throwing the class into confusion and panic.
”He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.”
Similarly, a member of staff of the institution also disclosed that there is now apprehension within the school community, as Anslem’s death was the third in six weeks since the new Rector, Prof. Salihu Sanusi, assumed office on February 11.
The member of staff stated, “It is more worrisome that both Anslem and Barnabas died after defending their PhD thesis.
”Anslem was in a meeting some hours before going for the lecture. We cannot imagine that a man who was bubbling and full of life in the meeting is now dead.”
The management of the Kogi State Polytechnic had yet to issue a statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
