The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver a ruling today in a legal battle seeking to restrain Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following her alleged suspension by the party’s Wuse Ward Executive in the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Peter Odo Lifu will deliver the ruling after the court earlier received arguments on an ex parte application filed by members of the ward.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was filed by Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of themselves and other ward members, with the serving senator representing the FCT as the sole defendant.

Court rejects bid to bar Kingibe from ADC

Through their counsel, Kolawole Olowookere (SAN), the plaintiffs asked the court to grant an interim injunction restraining Kingibe from parading herself as a member of the ADC pending the determination of their motion on notice.

They also urged the court to prevent the senator from attending party meetings, performing functions reserved for party members, or representing the ADC in any capacity.

In addition, the ward executives asked the court to restrain her from interfering with the administration of the ward and its statutory records.

According to the plaintiffs, Kingibe was suspended on March 10 by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee over allegations of anti-party activities and disregard for the party’s constitution.

They claimed the suspension followed due process and was ratified by two-thirds of the ward executive members.

“That the suspension followed due process as enshrined in the ADC Constitution and ratified by the two thirds majority of the Exco members,” the plaintiffs stated.

The plaintiffs further alleged that despite being informed of her suspension, the senator had continued to act as a member of the party.

They claimed she had held parallel meetings, issued press statements as an ADC member, and used her security aides to intimidate ward executives.

“That despite the communication of the suspension to her, she has continued to hold parallel meetings, issue press statements as ADC member and using her security details to intimidate the Executive Committee,” they alleged.

The plaintiffs argued that such actions constitute “flagrant disregard to the internal mechanism of the party.”

After listening to arguments from both sides, Justice Lifu fixed April 1 to rule on whether to grant the interim orders sought by the plaintiffs.
