The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Maj. Gen. Aminu Bande (retd.) has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after formally resigning his membership of the PDP.
themomentng reports that Bande was officially received into the ADC on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, where he was welcomed by the state chairman of the party, Sufiyanu Bala, and issued his membership card.
The retired army general had earlier tendered his resignation from the PDP in a letter addressed to the party’s ward chairman in Nasarawa I Ward, Birnin Kebbi, stating that his decision took immediate effect.
In the letter dated Sunday, Bande explained that the move followed extensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders.
According to him, the decision came after deep reflection on the political future of Kebbi State and the country.
Explaining the reason for his exit from the PDP, Bande said the step was necessary to align with what he described as the collective aspiration of his supporters for a more stable political platform.
He said the move was taken after “deep consideration, reflection, and consultations with my associates and other stakeholders.”
According to him, the decision was aimed at promoting “good, just, and fair governance in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.”
Although Bande did not initially disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter, his reception at the ADC secretariat confirmed his new political alignment.
Bande contested the 2023 governorship election in Kebbi State under the PDP, but lost to the incumbent governor, Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
