Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has committed his future to the club after signing a new one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

Harry Maguire, 33, was approaching the final months of his previous deal, which had been due to expire at the end of the season.

The fresh agreement keeps him at Old Trafford into a possible eighth campaign since his record-breaking arrival from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million, then a world-record fee for a defender.

Maguire has since made 266 appearances, helping United lift the League Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup the following year.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day,” Maguire said.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”

His future once appeared uncertain after losing the captaincy under Erik ten Hag and nearly joining West Ham United in August 2023 before the move collapsed.

Opportunities also proved limited under Ruben Amorim, but fortunes shifted following the arrival of interim boss Michael Carrick, with Maguire starting all 10 matches since mid-January 2026.

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us,” he added.

Director of football Jason Wilcox praised the defender’s influence.

He said, “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.”
