A devastating airstrike has reportedly killed over 200 traders and civilians at Jilli Market in Geidam, Yobe State.

The strike occurred on Saturday evening at the busy border market near Borno State — a hub where hundreds had gathered for daily trading activities.

Eyewitnesses say the explosion hit at peak hours, leaving bodies scattered and many others critically injured. Survivors are currently being rushed to hospitals in Geidam and Damaturu, while some victims have been moved to medical facilities in neighbouring Borno.

A local official, Lawan Zanna Nur, who is on ground assisting victims, described the situation as catastrophic:

“As we speak, over 200 people have lost their lives… and the numbers may still rise.”

Authorities have now issued an urgent call for blood donations as hospitals struggle to cope with the influx of casualties.

The Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement, and details surrounding the strike remain unclear.

This incident adds to growing concerns over civilian casualties in military operations in Nigeria’s conflict zones.
