FG to extradite Timipre Sylva over alleged coup plot

The Federal Government has initiated moves to extradite former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, over his alleged involvement in a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.

Sylva, who is listed as the seventh defendant in the suit, is said to be on the run and is being tried in absentia.

Sources who spoke with Daily Trust disclosed on Tuesday that the government has enlisted the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to track and extradite the former minister.

According to the sources, the move is aimed at ensuring Sylva returns to Nigeria to face prosecution.

themomentng reports that the development comes as the Federal Government is set to arraign six other defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged coup plot.

The suit was filed on behalf of the Federal Government by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

Those to be arraigned include retired Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.

The defendants are expected to appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, as proceedings commence.

Sylva, who is also named in the charge, remains at large.
