The Central Bank of Tunisia has unveiled a new national mobile payment identity called “TUNPAY”, aimed at creating a single, consistent standard for digital payments across the country.

The initiative introduces one unified visual label that will be displayed at all points where mobile payments are accepted. This includes supermarkets, small retail shops, bank branches, digital applications, and other service providers. The move replaces the current system where different payment providers use separate symbols and indicators.

Under this framework, consumers will see the same “TUNPAY” mark regardless of which mobile wallet or bank they use. This is expected to make digital payments more intuitive and reduce confusion when shopping or accessing services.

For customers, the new label functions as a simple assurance tool—clearly showing where mobile payments are accepted and strengthening trust in electronic transactions. It is designed to make cashless payments easier to recognize and use in everyday life.
Businesses and merchants are also expected to benefit, as the TUNPAY badge will signal payment readiness, improving customer confidence and potentially increasing sales through faster, more convenient transactions.

The Central Bank says the initiative is part of a wider strategy to accelerate digital financial inclusion and streamline Tunisia’s fragmented payment ecosystem. By introducing a single national identifier, authorities aim to remove barriers related to trust, visibility, and interoperability in mobile payments.

Announced through an official directive signed by Governor Fethi Zouheir Nouri, the reform reflects a broader push toward building a more unified and efficient digital payment landscape in Tunisia, centered on simplicity, accessibility, and widespread adoption.
