The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Yusuf Dantalle, has declared that the party will not allow political godfathers to dictate its affairs ahead of next year’s general elections.

themomentng reports that Dantalle stated this on Saturday during an interview on Arise Television, where he also spoke on the party’s ongoing political alliance efforts and internal structure.

According to him, while financial support remains important for political parties, the APM would not compromise its principles by handing control of the party to influential individuals.

Dantalle said the party was determined to build an egalitarian political structure in which members would have equal opportunities and participate in decision-making processes.

“Every voice in the party is important. Inasmuch as we need financial resources to drive the activities of the party, we would not hoodwink ourselves with any godfather to determine what happens in our party,” he said.

The APM chairman stressed that the party leadership was focused on strengthening internal democracy rather than promoting personality-driven politics.

“APM is the kind of egalitarian political party we want to build,” he added.

Speaking further, Dantalle explained that the party’s decision to pursue alliances ahead of the elections was necessary due to the limited time remaining before Nigerians head to the polls.

He noted that the leadership believed that collaboration with like-minded political actors could strengthen the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.

Although he did not disclose specific parties involved in the talks, he maintained that any alliance entered into by the APM would be guided by the party’s principles and long-term vision.

The party chairman also described the APM as one of the few political parties in the country operating without internal crisis or rancour.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere within the party was achieved through strict adherence to constitutional provisions and party regulations.

“The APM is one party that I would say is clean, devoid of any form of rancour. And how did we achieve that feat? We try as much as possible to work within the laws,” Dantalle stated.
