Real Madrid have confirmed that captain Dani Carvajal will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 24-year association with the Spanish giants.
Dani Carvajal, 34, who joined the academy in 2002, departs as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history after a glittering spell that spanned youth and senior football.
In an official statement, the club said: “Real Madrid has reached an agreement with our captain Dani Carvajal to end his wonderful journey as a player of our club at the end of this season.”
The statement added: “Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and all its affection to one of the greatest legends in the history of our club and world football.”
Carvajal spent 10 seasons in the youth ranks before returning from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 to cement his place in the first team. Over 13 senior seasons, he made 450 appearances, scored 14 goals and provided 65 assists.
His trophy haul is staggering. Carvajal won 27 titles, including six Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and four Spanish Super Cups. He is also one of only five players in football history to lift the European Cup six times.
Individual honours followed late in his career. He was named in the FIFPro World XI 2024, earned the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World XI 2024 award and was named Player of the Match in the 2024 Champions League final after scoring.
At the international level, he made 51 appearances for Spain, winning Euro 2024 and the UEFA Nations League in 2025.
Club president Florentino Pérez said: “Dani Carvajal is a legend, a symbol of Real Madrid and its youth academy. Along with our beloved and remembered Alfredo Di Stéfano, he is an image of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium that will forever remain in the hearts of all Madridistas and in the history of our club. Carvajal has always represented the values of Real Madrid in an exemplary manner. This is his forever home.”
Real Madrid will honour Carvajal with a tribute ceremony at the Santiago Bernabéu during Saturday’s final league match.
