A travel agent, Adaramaja Abiodun, on Tuesday appeared before an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding an intending traveller to the tune of N4.5 million to procure a Mauritian visa.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Mr O. Ahmed told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in May, 2024 in Akure.
Ahmed said that the defendant collected N4.5 million from the complainant, Mr Sunday Adanlawo, to procure a Mauritian visa and other travel documents for his son, Mr Idowu Adanlawo.
He alleged that the defendant failed to do so and converted the money to his personal use.
Ahmed said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State, 2000.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The magistrate, Mr Taiwo Lebi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Lebi adjourned the case until July 2, for hearing.
