Kenya has taken a major step toward becoming an AI-driven tourism destination following a new partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife and Google Kenya. Cabinet Secretary Hon. Rebecca Miano announced the collaboration, describing it as part of the country’s broader strategy to position itself as Africa’s leading digitally enabled tourism hub.

The initiative follows recommendations made by the government’s Rebranding Taskforce and aims to modernize Kenya’s tourism sector through advanced digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence. Central to the partnership is the planned launch of a real-time Tourism Pulse Data Hub on Google Cloud, which will provide data-driven insights to support tourism planning, policy formulation, and market analysis.

As part of the transformation, the government and Google Kenya will also introduce a Gemini-powered AI trip planner designed to create personalized travel itineraries for visitors. The tool is expected to improve tourist experiences by offering tailored recommendations based on travelers’ interests and preferences. In addition, precision marketing strategies will be deployed to target key international markets and increase Kenya’s global tourism visibility.

The partnership also places strong emphasis on youth empowerment and digital inclusion. New digital skilling programmes will train young people and tourism-focused small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in modern technology applications. Local curators will also receive training on Google Arts & Culture platforms, opening up new opportunities in digital storytelling, heritage preservation, and online cultural promotion.

According to Rebecca Miano, the government is shifting from traditional tourism marketing approaches toward evidence-based strategies powered by technology and analytics. The initiative is expected to help double international tourist arrivals, create technology-enabled employment opportunities, and contribute to Kenya’s long-term economic growth and prosperity.

Miano thanked Google Kenya for what she described as a transformative partnership that will strengthen the country’s tourism sector and support Kenya’s ambition to become an AI-first nation.
