The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 673,446 registered voters will vote at the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20.
themomentng reports that the by-election in the senatorial district was vacant following the resignation of Jimoh Ibrahim, who is now the Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mutiu Agboke, stated this on Tuesday at the INEC state office during the inter-agency consultative committee meeting on the by-election.
Agboke explained that the election would hold in the 1,354 polling units across the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
He added that 1,359 bi-modal voter accreditation system(BVAS) machines would be deployed and used for the election with additional of 264 backup BVAS machines being kept in reserve to address any technical contingency.
The REC said that non sensitive materials had been distributed to all local government area offices of the commission in the senatorial district.
According to him, only four political parties fielded candidates to contest in the election.
“It is pertinent to state that only four political parties: All Progressives Congress(APC), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP) and Boot Party have submitted names for their candidates and contesting in the election,” he said.
He asked heads of security agencies in the state to deploy enough personnel to facilitate early movement of ad-hoc staff for the election.
Agboke asked for collective responsibility of all stakeholders, promising that only the registered voters would determine the winner of the election.
NAN reports that some security agencies at the meeting were Immigration, Fire Service, Department of State Security, ICPC, Nigerian Navy and Nigeria Police Force.
