A customer has accused staff at Bokku Mart of improperly charging ₦1,700 for a nylon bag that was reportedly priced at ₦100, raising concerns about checkout practices at the retail store.

The allegation surfaced on social media after the shopper recounted the incident, claiming it occurred while returning home from an outing and stopping at the supermarket to purchase three items.

According to the customer, a store attendant asked whether a nylon bag was needed for the purchase. After agreeing, the shopper was informed that the bag cost ₦100.

The customer later discovered that ₦1,700 had been deducted instead and only noticed the discrepancy after reviewing the receipt inside a vehicle shortly after leaving the store.

Upon returning to the supermarket to seek clarification, the customer said the attendant described the charge as an error and stated that a supervisor would need to authorise a correction.

The shopper expressed frustration at being required to wait for a resolution, arguing that the excess amount could have been refunded immediately rather than requiring additional intervention.

According to the account, the supervisor later instructed the attendant to return the difference, resolving the issue on the spot.

The incident has sparked discussion online, with the customer questioning whether similar alleged overcharges may have affected other shoppers.

“₦1,700 is not a lot of money, but imagine doing this to five to ten customers a day,” the customer wrote, urging business owners to closely monitor staff activities and financial transactions.

The allegation has not been independently verified, and Bokku Mart had not publicly responded to the claim at the time of reporting.

The episode highlights growing consumer concerns about retail billing accuracy and the importance of checking receipts before leaving stores, particularly as electronic payments become increasingly common across Nigeria’s retail sector.
